Ben Emlyn-Jones at Weird Weekend North

I will be speaking at the Weird Weekend North event, Saturday the 7th and Sunday the 8th of April 2018. My talk will be entitled: Helen Duncan- Wartime Psychic Jailed. In 1944 the psychic medium Helen Duncan was put on trial under the two hundred year old Witchcraft Act of 1735 because she was accused of defrauding the public by staging a fake seance. An open and shut case? Or was something else more complicated and furtive going on, something related to wartime secrets and espionage?
The original Weird Weekend has taken place in Devon for a number of years and is organized by the Centre for Fortean Zoology; this is an affiliate for the North Country, hence the name. The venue is the Rixton-with-Glazebrook Community Hall, Manchester Road, Hollins Green, Warrington, Cheshire and Greater Manchester border, WA3-6JZ. Tickets cost £30 for the whole weekend; very cheap. See here for details: http://glenvaudrey.wixsite.com/weird-weekend-north.
