Grass Circles

As the 2017 crop circle season draws to a close, believers in the hundred percent man-made hypothesis slap each other on the backs, as they do every year, in a curious mixture of frustration and self-congratulatory glee over the fact that there are still people out there who don't accept their explanation for the phenomenon. In the background links below I explain in detail why I am one of those people. One fact that is often overlooked by media reports into crop circles is that they are far older than most people think. They have been reported for several centuries before the modern crop circle era that began in the 1970's, albeit previously they were much rarer. Also patterns similar to crop circles sometimes appear in other matrices. It's as if whatever intelligence creates these patterns sees the crop simply as a convenient medium in the absence of which they would use another. Sometimes equally intricate and beautiful patterns appear in snow, without any footprints near them, see: And in sand, see: Many of these are created by an artist called Julian Richardson who used to make crop circles, but not all are. Again, we see a lack of footprints that would be present if humans were involved.

The most inexplicable and mysterious of these alternative crop circles are in grass. These have appeared in several places and are believed to have started in the Netherlands; indeed Crop Circle Connector has started reporting them as well, see: However there are much older records of grass circles in southern Africa. The first mention of them can be found in literature of explorers from around 1920 and it describes strange circular formations in the grasslands of the Namib Desert, a sparsely-habited arid region that stretches along the coast of southwest Africa from southern Angola to the Cape Province of South Africa, see: Many scientists have proposed explanations such as the activity of termites, soil chemistry and a collective plant growth strategy connected to the dry climate. However the people of the local Himba culture call them "fairy circles" and believe they are the work of Mukuru, their creator god. In the absence of any other conclusion why should we not take that possibility seriously? Fairy circles are not to be confused with fairy rings. Fairy rings are mushrooms that grow in a circle on grass in wetter climes; and this is simply caused by the mycelium, the underground part of the fungus, spreading into the soil and consuming nutrients in a particular way. Grass rings have no such obvious mundane explanations and therefore I must speculate that they have more in common with the crop circle phenomenon than they do with biological forces. Also it seems grass circles are spreading. They've been observed in parts of Australia as well as outside their heartland in the Namib Desert. Could this mean that the "artist", whoever... or whatever... they are, wants more people to see their portfolio?

Men-Only Bowls Club

Chesterfield Bowling Club claims to be the oldest in the world. It was established in 1294 at its current home ground in Derbyshire. It has always been a club for men only yet a former member has accused it of being "stuck in its ways". He has left and joined a mixed-sex bowls club. Bowls is a traditional English game usually played by older people. It is generally more popular with men, but that doesn't mean something is wrong that needs to be fixed; it's just that human nature varies when generalizing groups. There is nothing preventing any woman who wants to play bowls from playing. This is a point I brought up when several people complained that there were supposedly not enough female UFOlogists. In fact attempts to force a balance in such circumstances can be extremely destructive, see: Chesterfield Bowling Club is not entirely men only; they have a "ladies day" once a year and there is an old photo of such an event in the source article below. They have polled their members and voted to remain men-only. This is despite the former member blaming this supposed stodginess for the club's financial problems. They are old even by the standards of the sport; the youngest member is sixty-six. Source: I'm glad they have stuck by their principles and it's a shame the Royal Troon Golf Club did not, see: The issue here is the double standard. Feminists who object to man-spaces invariably are open and proud members of woman-spaces. There are Women's Institute branches all over the world. Every academic institution has a women's organization, along with black groups and LGBT groups etc. It is only white heterosexual males who are denied this right to free association and self-actualization. This is not fair and I think there is a sinister mind control agenda behind it. And, so predictably... there is a women's bowls club too, see:

2017 American Eclipse

Solar eclipses are not rare events; in fact a total eclipse of the sun occurs at least once every eighteen months. They don't always occur in the same place though and a single spot on the earth will experience totality only about once every three to four hundred years on average. I've never seen a total eclipse although there have been two in Oxford that have been close to total in recent decades, 1999 and 2015. Tomorrow there will be an eclipse that will be called "the Great American Eclipse" because its route looks almost designed to provide the best view from within the United States of America. The USA is still one of the most powerful and influential nations on earth, therefore this eclipse is being widely publicized. It will begin at dawn in the central Pacific Ocean and will head for the US west coast appearing first in Oregon at 9.05 AM local time, that's 5.05 PM British Summer Time. The path of totality will be a seventy-mile-wide corridor running from the Pacific North West and Rocky Mountain states of Oregon, Idaho and Wyoming; then into Nebraska, Missouri and through the Deep South states through to the Atlantic coast at Charleston, South Carolina. A person standing still at sea level will experience two minutes and forty seconds of totality. Outside the totality zone the eclipse will be a partial one to a greater or lesser degree. It will be visible from northwest Europe only as a bite-sized partial segment just before sunset. The cause of a solar eclipse is very simple; the moon travels between the sun and the earth blocking out some or all of its rays. The experience is like night suddenly falling for a short time; no longer than seven minutes thirty-two seconds. It's easy to work out when eclipses will occur in the future by calculating the movement of the moon and sun with the rotation of the earth, see:

However, for superstitious people, the experience of an eclipse can be frightening and loaded with meaning, usually malevolent. Eclipses have been responsible for hysteria, mass-panic, belief that the world has ended and multiple suicides. The USA in the early 21st century is sadly not immune to this and there almost certainly will be some kind adverse action tomorrow afternoon for particular kinds of people, especially in rural and insular areas of the country where the Bible and the gun still rule as the twin pillars of civilization. It doesn't help that the first place in America to see the eclipse is called Salem. This is an infamous name in American history because in 1692 there was a trial in Salem in which twenty people were convicted of witchcraft in a scene reminiscent of medieval Europe. Most of them were hung from trees and the others died in prison. This crime took place in a different Salem though; one in Essex County, Massachusetts on the other end of the continent; the Salem that will start the eclipse lies near the coast of Oregon. Nevertheless the same name alone might be enough to convince some Americans that this is the date chosen by God to initiate the Last Days as foretold in the Book of Revelations. Who knows what people in that state of mind might do? As a result the emergency services and National Guard will be on standby, especially in and around Salem. Many Americans are followers of Wicca, a neopagan religion inspired by ancient pre-Christian British rites. The eclipse is called the "Black Moon" in Wicca and it is very meaningful spiritually, but not necessarily bad. Source: The same goes for its significance in astrology, see: The focus on the United States with this eclipse may be a portent for radical change in that country, perhaps it is connected to the rise of Donald Trump and the "2016 Effect", see: This is also the day that the first commercial flight will land at St Helena Airport, although the eclipse will not be visible from the island, see: Noon on that same day has also been chosen... coincidentally, for the moment when Big Ben's chimes stop for about four years of building work, see: There are many public events, street parties and other celebrations to mark the eclipse. I hope my American readers all enjoy it. Be careful not to look at the sun without one of the safe viewing methods, see: Also tune into Space Weather on the HPANWO Show on HPANWO Radio for a complete report next Thursday, see links column.

St Helena Airport Maiden Flight

Back in June, the access contract for St Helena Airport was signed. It was awarded to the South African operator SA Airlink, see: The airline will be carrying out the first ever commercial flight to St Helena Airport on Monday the 21st of August 2017 (Oddly enough this will be the day of the Great American Eclipse; are these people astrologers?). The aircraft will be SA Airlink's brand new Embraer E190, a medium range twin-engine jet that can carry between eighty to a hundred and twenty-four passengers. Unfortunately all the tickets have been reserved for VIP's among the SA Airlink executives and the St Helena Government on this historic celebratory flight; but if this proving flight goes well a full regular schedule will begin, and after that you will be able to purchase a ticket and fly to St Helena on easy terms. The route will eventually be extended to Ascension. The plane will depart Johannesburg at 7 AM local time, that's 6 AM British Summer Time, and will stopover at Windhoek in Namibia for half an hour before setting out over the Atlantic Ocean towards St Helena. It is expected to land on St Helena at 1.15 PM local time, that's 2.15 PM BST (St Helena does not change its clocks in spring and uses Greenwich Mean Time all year round). Source: The stay of execution for the faithful old RMS St Helena will then sadly be over and she will be retired in February next year. After that she will probably head for the breakers yard. This maiden commercial flight to St Helena is the final step in a process that was begun when construction of the airport commenced in 2012. I began covering this subject in March 2014, see background links below. The first ever landing at St Helena Airport took place there in September 2015; a Beechcraft light aircraft was sent there to help with a medical emergency. Since then there have been thirty-one other landings, mostly test missions, but there has been a helicopter as well and two military aircraft on classified missions; see background links below. However Monday's flight marks the start of normal access; in other words, it is the moment when St Helena Airport joins the international list of active passenger aviation transport hubs. This day, more than any other milestone, marks the moment when the gates of global society are swung open and the outside world pours in onto that little island. For better or for worse... or maybe a bit of both. There is no going back now. The dye is cast.

Ben Emlyn-Jones and Danielle at Bases at the Black Swan

The Bases at the Black Swan was one of the most enjoyable of the many public events the Bases Project has held, see background links below for details of some others. I interviewed Miles Johnston about the event and the upcoming one in Ireland here: I met up with many old friends and made a few new ones, such as Danielle. She had the most terrible journey to the Black Swan from her home in West Yorkshire. She was stopped by the police over a motoring offence that appeared too conveniently timed to be coincidental. She had her car impounded and would have had it confiscated permanently if it hadn't been for the solidarity and generosity of the Bases Project delegation. I introduced the open-mic experiencers session at the event and she was the first speaker, making her public live debut.
Danielle will shortly be a guest on HPANWO Radio, see the entry in the Links column for upcoming details and she has her own websites here: and:

Sunday Express on Marcus Allen

For some reason there has been considerable mainstream media coverage of this year's Glastonbury Symposium, see: I myself went along in 2010 and made one of my favourite HPANWO TV videos, Ben Goes on Tor!, see: In those days only the specialized press of the UFO/conspiracy/paranormal and the mind/body/spirit communities; and the various overlaps thereof, covered it. Journals such as Nexus, Caduceus, Namaste etc. This year one of the speakers was Marcus Allen, the UK publisher of Nexus magazine. He's a good friend of mine and fellow researcher, specializing in the moon landings, and has been on HPANWO Radio many times, see: His lecture was reviewed by Jon Austin of the Sunday Express and... ultimate spoiler alert, it is not exactly Pulitzer Prize material. Source:

The content is vaguely factual, but includes some aversive elements. The very title is simplistic and misleading: "Secret Space Project- 'NASA had craft to reach moon... but hoaxed Apollo missions instead'." It is intended to make the reader scoff, and hopefully read no further. The true relationship between the secret space programme and NASA's public equivalent is complex, but explicable. Marcus and I delve into it in our interviews and also there is more information in the background links below. The article begins: "A top lunar landings denier." Any description of a person's beliefs that includes the suffix "denier" is a personal slur. It is intended to connect in the reader's mind to "Holocaust denier" and thereby demonize the person. It is a tactic used by people like George Monbiot, see: "Shocking claim" is just a piece of shallow rhetoric. Why use the adjective "shocking"? "Shocking" is a position on a purely emotional and qualitative gauge. It says nothing about how much or little evidence exists to support or discredit the claim. It is similar to Carl Sagan's cliche "Extraordinary claims require extraordinary explanations." See here for more details: "Mr Allen is the UK publisher of 'alternative news' magazine Nexus." "Alternative news" is put into scare-quotes so that the reader will intuit an implicit pejorative subtext. This is done in a similar way to how the mainstream media use the phrase "fake news". The same goes for the old lines "moon hoax conspiracy theorist" (repeated twice) and "The far-fetched conspiracy theory." If a trick keeps working, why not keep using it? "It is then claimed that specialist scientists aided by Nazi's, who worked for the US in return for immunity from war crimes trials." This refers to Operation Paperclip and it is not a "claim"; it is historical fact. After the destruction of Nazi Germany at the end of World War II, Hitler's scientists were given the choice of working for the victorious allies or going to Nuremburg. The best known of these scientists is Wernher von Braun. Many of these experts were also working in the field of electrogravitics and this would have included the back-engineering of extraterrestrial technology that used it, see background links for details. "Believers even claim that the high-tech craft are secretly flown into space." The word "believers" is another dysphemism; it echoes phrases like "believers in the cult of the Lemonade Fountain" etc. It prevents the readers understanding that people like Marcus have come to this field of study via a careful scientific analysis of the evidence. As always with the mainstream media, it is the comments under the article that are far more interesting than the article itself; and based on those, apart from the usual idiots of course, I'm pleased to say that the propaganda in this screed does not appear to have fooled as many people as the authors and editor would probably like. We're almost at the fiftieth anniversary of the Apollo moon missions. NASA know this is going to be a massive informational choke point for them, possibly too massive to prevent the truth exploding out... and I'm going to be squeezing hard on their necks!

Big Brother House Haunted

Celebrity Big Brother 2017 is underway. This Orwellian TV franchise has been running for twenty years and has been exported to fifty-four countries. The latest instalment of evictions, arguments, communal sleeping and cameras in the toilet stars a number of celebrities; however, and maybe I'm just displaying my alienation from popular culture, I have only heard of one of these people, Derek Acorah, see: Derek Acorah is a self-styled psychic medium who has risen to the heights of stardom via his professed ability to talk to the dead. He became famous as one of the hosts of Most Haunted. David Icke has also had readings with him. Despite this, his psychic ability has been called into question and a few times he has been caught out cheating. He once claimed to channel the spirit of a dead South African prisoner warder called Kreed Kafer. He was actually hot reading disinformation he had been fed. Kreed Kafer never existed and was only invented by some skeptics who wanted to catch Acorah out. The name is an anagram of "Derek faker". Therefore quite a few TV viewers will be rolling their eyes and folding their arms over Acorah's latest scoop. He says that the Big Brother house is haunted by the ghosts of two housemates from previous series. David Gest was a TV actor and the ex-husband of the actress Liza Minnelli. He was in the 2016 Celebrity Big Brother and died a few months later of a stroke. Jade Goody appeared in the 2002 season of Big Brother and went on to become a household name. She returned to the series in Celebrity Big Brother 2007. She died of cervical cancer at the tender age of twenty-seven. Derek Acorah says he has seen the spirits of both former contestants in the house as well as orbs and mist. Source:

Just because a psychic medium carries out fraud does not necessarily follow that they are not a real medium, but it does totally ruin their credibility. Some genuine mediums will fake the effects when they're having trouble connecting to spirit. I advise never to be tempted into that. It is better to be honest with the audience, tell them the spirits are simply not cooperating tonight and offer them their money back. One reason Acorah may be blagging again this time is because Jade Goody might not be dead. Like Jo Cox MP (see background links below), she may have faked her own death and is now living a long way from her previous home under a new identity. This was suggested by Ian R Crane in one of his lectures and there is good reason to suggest this. Firstly, despite being terminally ill she does not look very sick in her photos at the time. She lost her hair, allegedly due to chemotherapy, but did not loose much weight or exhibit any other obvious symptoms. The way her diagnosis was revealed to her was extraordinary. She was a housemate in the Indian version of the show, called Bigg Boss, when she was called to the diary room and given the news on the phone by her doctor in England. She was then allowed to return to the house where she broke down in tears and was consoled by the other housemates, see: Under no circumstances would any doctor consult with a patient in that manner, especially when it comes to news that is so terrible. What would have happened is that Jade would be called to the diary room and told by Big Brother that she had to leave the house for medical reasons. She would then be taken to the surgery and told by the doctor in person. In fact it is unlikely that she would even have been allowed to be a contestant while undergoing tests for the disease. This was a test for the cancer itself, not just a positive papilloma smear test. Why would Jade fake her own death? Ian suspects it is to help market "Gardesil", the human papilloma virus vaccine, see: I'm not sure about this. Jade Goody would be a bad choice for this kind of scam because her personality is not one I would judge as being good for keeping a secret.

Seth Rich Murder and Wikileaks

The serendipity that follows Bill and Hillary Clinton has claimed another name for its notorious body count. In 2016 Wikileaks released a series of emails that revealed corruption at the Democratic National Convention. The emails were about how the Convention was plotting to sabotage the presidential run of Bernie Sanders and make sure that Hillary Clinton was the only candidate for President. This is why it was doubly frustrating when the old fool went and endorsed her; see background links below for details. The chairwoman of the Convention, Debbie Wasserman Schultz, resigned, but it stopped there. In a just world this kind of perversion of the political process should result in a criminal investigation that would be bigger than Watergate, but so far President Trump has not ordered one; could this be because Trump might now compromised, see: The leak was allegedly obtained by a hacker, or team of hackers, codenamed "Guccifer 2.0". The identity of this source has never been revealed. He/she/they claim to be Romanian IT technicians, but there is no evidence for or against this. However, following the event a young staffer at the Convention, a political scientist named Seth Rich, was murdered. He was shot dead in the streets of Washington DC and the police claim that it was an attempted robbery. However nothing was taken from his pockets. As David Icke would say: "Just a coincidence, nothing to worry about." Mr Rich's family support the police findings and ask people like me not to speculate otherwise because it adds to their grief. This is not my intention; nevertheless if we have reason to be suspicious then we have a duty to speak out. If we don't, others in the future might have to die for the Rich family's feelings. This is the same argument used over and over again by 9/11 and 7/7 official story-believers, see: The people who spoke out claiming that Seth Rich's death was another Clinton revenge attack were branded "conspiracy theorists". However this all changed when Seymour Hersh, one of America's most experienced and respected journalists, announced that Seth Rich was indeed the deep throat in the DNC from which the emails had been divulged to Wikileaks; this was revealed by an alleged source of his in the FBI. It was not a Romanian hacker at all; it was an insider, Seth Rich. This is not something a man in Hersh's position would have said lightly. To qualify, Hersh does not dispute the police report on Seth Rich's shooting, but his revelations do lend weight to the possibility of an assassination and cover up. Source: At the time of writing, the DNC has yet to comment.

The deception might run even deeper than this though. Is Wikileaks itself a trustworthy source at all? For several years Richard D Hall has been claiming that Julian Assange, Edward Snowden and Bradley/Chelsea Manning are all controlled opposition. When Richard said this he made it clear that he was one hundred percent certain that this was the case. Richard tends to embrace certainty too hastily in my view, and this has led him to make several mistakes; see background links for details. I disagreed with him at the time about Wikileaks et al. Nevertheless he has recently published a new episode of Richplanet TV where he and Andrew Johnson present additional evidence against the authenticity of Julian Assange and Wikileaks that is very compelling. They have raised questions that must be answered: Assange's family connections to a religious cult, his apparently unfiltered presence in the media, his involvement with government cyber-security projects and much more, see: This information will have to be taken into account when it comes to future supposed exposés being released from Wikileaks. There may be another explanation for the allegations made by Richard and Andrew, but I can't think of one right now. How does this affect the DNC corruption scandal and the murder of Seth Rich?

Another 9/11 No-Show in Dubai

There has been a second skyscraper fire in Dubai in as many years. Following the New Year conflagration of the Address Downtown another of the city's iconic high-rises has gone up in flames, this time it is the now facetiously named Torch Tower. The type of fire is very similar in nature to the tragedy at Grenfell Tower, see: However because this is a luxury block of flats and not a council human rubbish stack for people the authorities consider worthless, it has alarms, detectors, sprinklers and all the other necessary emergency appliances needed that Grenfell lacked; therefore all the residents were successfully evacuated to safety. Source: Again though, I have waited for it to turn into a cloud of dust, and yet again it has not. The background links below provide all the other examples.

Ben Emlyn-Jones at Weird Weekend North

I will be speaking at the Weird Weekend North event, Saturday the 7th and Sunday the 8th of April 2018. My talk will be entitled: Helen Duncan- Wartime Psychic Jailed. In 1944 the psychic medium Helen Duncan was put on trial under the two hundred year old Witchcraft Act of 1735 because she was accused of defrauding the public by staging a fake seance. An open and shut case? Or was something else more complicated and furtive going on, something related to wartime secrets and espionage?
The original Weird Weekend has taken place in Devon for a number of years and is organized by the Centre for Fortean Zoology; this is an affiliate for the North Country, hence the name. The venue is the Rixton-with-Glazebrook Community Hall, Manchester Road, Hollins Green, Warrington, Cheshire and Greater Manchester border, WA3-6JZ. Tickets cost £30 for the whole weekend; very cheap. See here for details:

Jim Marrs Dies

I'm very sorry to report that Jim Marrs has died. He passed away after an illness. Jim was a veteran conspiracy theorist from another age. Long before the internet he was investigating UFO's, secret government activities and hidden technology. He wrote several conspiratorial classics such as Crossfire- the Plot that Killed Kennedy, that inspired Oliver Stone's film JFK. See here for more information: He has written a dozen other books on all kinds of UFO/conspiracy/paranormal matters, His work on the Aurora Incident has indicated strongly that this was the first ever recorded UFO crash-retrieval, see here for details: With his big white beard and cowboy hat he was an unmistakable sight at conferences and TV shows. He did numerous lectures and radio interviews. He will be sadly missed. RIP, Jim.

Alien Actor meets Real Aliens

I consider Ridley Scott's 1979 film Alien the best science fiction horror movie ever made. It has spawned an entire franchise of sequels; but all of them fail, to lesser or greater degrees, to rival the splendour of the original. Like all good horror movies, its power comes more from a good knowledge of human psychology than gruesome special effects. What truly scares people deep down? With Alien it is quite often the projected fear of the characters. The acting is so brilliant that the expression on people's faces when they see the creature has more impact than when the viewer sees it themselves. The actor Yaphet Kotto's performance was one of the best in the film. Kotto is also well-known for playing the best ever James Bond bad-guy in Live and Let Die. Now, at the age of seventy-seven, he has announced publicly that he has had real alien contact. Judging by his ripe old age he has clearly encountered real aliens that are far less homicidal than their fictional counterpart. Kotto is from an African Jewish family and Africa is a continent with a long and deep tradition for extraterrestrial visitation that is often overlooked by conventional UFOlogy, see: and: His experiences began when he was aged nine or ten at his home in the Bronx, New York USA. He saw a creature one day when he was playing with his friends in the street. He also regularly saw UFO's above his house. These events followed him as he travelled, even when he moved to the Philippines. Even when he was in the production of Alien, ironically, he had sightings of real aliens. He once had a close encounter with a mothership that he describes as being "the size of Yankee Stadium". Some of these events involve missing time. Until now only his wife, psychoanalyst and rabbi know about this factor of his life. His wife was with him and shared one of his sightings. The skeptics predictably questioned his mental health, but he says he is perfectly sane and very intelligent; he claims he has an IQ of 196. He also denies that he's seeking fame and fortune. He is already a famous actor who has earned a very healthy living from his talents; he's not writing a book or making a movie that he needs to promote. Like many other contactees, he feels a sense of compassion for the planet earth and wants to help the aliens save it. Source: Far from gaining anything, Kotto has a lot to lose be describing his experiences publicly. Everybody who has alien contact experience faces the threat of ridicule and rejection by their family, acquaintances and friends; but for celebrities this risk is far greater because they are recognized by so many other people as well. So well done, Mr Kotto, for speaking out. Good luck and I hope you don't have to endure too much aggravation.
