Evan's Land is Coming True

 

There is currently no free online text copy of the flawed masterpiece that is my debut novel Evan's Land. It was originally published as a book by The Aldyth Press in 2002 and I never went for a second print run. By then I was well on to my second novel Rockall. This was in the days before print-on-demand; it was necessary to invest hundreds or thousands of pounds before a single sale to produce a certain number of copies in advance. Today you can still enjoy a free audio book and I hope to give you a free text copy at some point. Evan's Land is an epic hero's journey set in a strange futuristic vision of Wales that has some elements of an alternative present. It tells the story about how the country descends into civil war after an ultranationalist regime seizes control of part of the country. The revolt leader, a man called Owen Clun-Jones, calls his territory "Free Wales" and sets about to eliminate the English language from it totally. Children born under his dominions are given "monoglot status credentials", proof that they are unable to speak English. Such youths have privilege over others and considered more worthy citizens. As an outsider says at one point: "I thought knowledge was the key to success, here it is ignorance." Owen Clun-Jones also abolishes all the English place names. Now it has been announced that Wales' tallest mountain, and taller than any British mountain outside Scotland, is going to lose its English name. Snowden will henceforth only be called Yr Wyddfa and Snowdonia will be officially referred to nothing but Eryri. This scheme has been running for two years and has been considered "a success". The news article about this does not even address the subtext of what the authorities are saying; that Welsh people who do not speak Welsh are now to be considered foreigners also. I do wonder how many of those who have learned Welsh as a second language in recent years have done so because they can't bear this acidic rejection. Nations who practice this kind of Cultural Revolution will suffer a backlash. Some people will refuse to learn Welsh as a protest. The idea that only Welsh-speakers are really Welsh is historically and culturally illiterate, but facts can't be allowed to obstruct an Orwellian rampage. When I wrote Evan's Land in the late '90's I had not read 1984, but I swear I must have channelled it. I'm once again sad to report that the judge has awarded £45,000 in damages to the claimants and ordered Richard to pay it. (I'm sure they were tempted to make it £22,000 but traded in their obsession with numerological symbolism for their wish not to be generous.) Source: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c86q0ypq7q0o. Regular readers will guess what an abomination I think this is. If I had the money I'd pay it for Richard. As it is, if Richard puts out another appeal for donations to help cover this penalty, I'll gladly contribute as much as I can afford. It will not end here. There is now a legal framework in place for "Eve's Law". Other people are going to follow Richard into the courts; maybe me, maybe you. The objective here is to make it lawfully impossible to express opinions on certain subjects that contradict the establishment consensus. What's more the criminal side of the law is adding "hate" and "offensive" regulations that have already led to people being jailed. We're entering a very dark place indeed. However, I'm a great believer in things coming out of left field. The political tide in most countries is ebbing towards something more positive. Possibly the people behind Richard's persecution know this, which is why they've taken such extreme action against him. But however much the cornered rat fights, it cannot win against the big black cat of freedom.

Kemi Badenoch has now won the Conservative leadership contest and will henceforth be Leader of the Opposition. I feel very different about that now than I did when I wrote that background article above for several reasons. Firstly, it's about three years too late. Secondly, Badenoch herself has weakened considerably from her previously very positive stances. If I were generous I'd say this was from the onslaught of establishment pressure; but she may also be motivated by personal gain. Her feud with Nigel Farage during the last general election made me question her sincerity. The Kemi I wrote about previously would have quit the Tories altogether and joined one of the populist parties. Did she stick with the Tories because she thinks it's the best way of achieving her political goals, or was it just the quickest path to personal power? If she is more truthful and less naive she will see these pitfalls coming before stepping on them. She will have the courage and self-discipline that Boris Johnson lacked. To be honest, I have not been following this leadership race. It is not very interesting because it is totally inconsequential. The Tories are still lying in the ditch following their election pasting. We have Two-Tier Keir Star-lin to cope with for almost five years. There are so few Conservative MP's left that they don't have a hope in hell of influencing anything in the Commons. The next general election is so far away and so much evil can now be wrought with the establishment so firmly in control, that who leads the Opposition now is as irrelevant to Britain and her people as to who leads a minor party on Fiji. The only plus to Kemi's victory is the entertainment value. In her acceptance speech she thanked everybody with the most vainglorious smirk. Rishi Sunak was notable by his absence and her main rival Robert Jenrick wore a forced smile that was clearly agonizing, see: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c0qdnewgx19o. Now I'm going to search desperately for a photo or video of Diane Abbott because I'm longing to see the look on her face.

A Roswell Near Me?

 

I've come across the most peculiar news story, and this time it's a local one; well, fairly local. A man was out walking his dog...I know!... but he was not on Cannock Chase this time, he was in a parkland area called Larden Chase in Streatley, in Berkshire just outside Oxfordshire. It is on the riverbank opposite Goring-on-Thames. He spotted a strange object lying on the ground which he identified as a crashed satellite and said it was making a "fuzzy" noise. A number of people had gathered round the object taking photographs and somebody had put up some red exclusion rope around it, and a crude handwritten sign stating: "Space authority aware. Do not touch this Binoclarit (DR) satellite." There was no punctuation so I'm not sure whether these sentences are properly formed. I don't know what "binoclarit" means. I tried Googling it and came up with the news story below. Somebody suggested it might be a portmanteau that means "binocular it"; in other words, don't approach the object and instead just observe it from a safe distance via a magnifying device. The object is roughly cylindrical and metallic. It has some silvery pipe-like structures emerging from it including a long straight tube or rod with a corrugated cylinder on the end of it. There is a light blue band running around the main structure with some black marks on it that looks to me like a character from the Chinese or Japanese script. It's hard to estimate the object's size from the photo; but based on the grass it's lying on, I'd say the cylinder module is two to three feet long. The police claim it is a hoax. Personally, it looks to me like a domestic heating boiler, but I'm not a hundred percent sure. I doubt very much that it is a satellite, let alone something more exotic. If so there would be more than red string and handwritten placards next to it. However, the fact that this possibility leapt to people's minds so easily is indicative of the popularity ET and secret space concepts enjoy these days, and that's a positive development.
