Good discussion Ben, nice to see Jason has a proper guest on for once instead of the usual strange characters he has on his show. You're right about technology tracking us.

I think the Covid situation is being used also to bring in more excuses to have automated services. I visited my local branch of TSB yesterday to cash a cheque and the lady behind the counter insisted I had to use the self service machine rather than a cashier. She told me that they are getting rid of all the counters. I said to her "Well you'll be out of a job then". She didn't say much but I got the feeling she agreed. John Hamer wrote (I still never got a reply from him regarding his Titanic switch theory) an article on his website about a friend of his having an issue with his bank regarding withdrawing money that was left for by his late father. I have had a similar issue where I feel like jumping through hoops to sort the money that my mother left me before she died (and yes they did put Covid on her death cert). I was wanting to transfer some of the money into a savings account, but when I spoke to the manager she said that I needed to have a valid passport and drivers license. I don't have a current passport and I don't have a drivers license as I don't drive, yet the bank said I needed these to prove who I was. It seems that banks have a stranglehold over you and your money. I think the reason why the majority of people put their money in a bank is mainly because of the interest that will be added, otherwise it would be just sitting in a safe under the bed and would be worth very little in the long run.

One thing I dont understand about the reason for the lockdown to shut down small businesses is, why haven't they targeted the corner shops/off licences?. They could've easily have forced them to close during lockdown. When I bring this subject amongst regular members in my family their reply is "well, the corner shops are still open so it's not as if every small shop is closed". Or are most off licences not classed as independent small businesses?. I walked into my local family run corner shop a few days ago and they have put stupid one way stickers on the floor, and this shop is tiny.

Hi Anon.
It's because those shops are classed as grocers. When you say off-licence, do you mean the specialized ones like Oddbins, or do you mean the corner shop that just has a drinks shelf along with all its other goods, cans of beans, scratchcard dispensers, newspaper stands etc?
