Sekret Machines 2- A Fire Within

See here for my review of the first book: https://hpanwo-voice.blogspot.com/2025/02/sekret-machines.html.
The sequel to Sekret Machines, Book 1- Chasing Shadows by Tom DeLonge and AJ Hartley continues the story directly and smoothly from the first novel. It includes all the same principle characters, Alan, Barry, Timika and Jennifer, but adds a few new ones. They continue to follow the clues left in the mysterious old diary and discover something new about themselves. Although the word is not used, it becomes clear that at least some of their number have the gift of "psionics". One of them ends up taking part in a number of laboratory experiments. They also experience some revelations about their past. Jennifer's childhood in Hampshire, the secrets her father kept from her. His connections to dark forces and shady organizations. Timika learns that there is something odd about her own biology. Their adventure takes them to various places, especially Crete, hunting for a lost artefact found by the Nazi's... not original I know. Another character that comes back into their lives, much to their inconvenience, is the deceptive man of many faces, Jean-Christophe Morat. The narrative once again includes interludes. Some are historic; from ancient Mesopotamia, to Hull in 1801 and 1967, to 2014 in the USA. The most interesting is a recurring parallel story involving nuclear weapons tests in the South Pacific in the 1950's and '60's, similar to the "tag-along" incidents described by Harald Malmgren, see: https://hpanwo-tv.blogspot.com/2025/05/ufo-disclosure-2025-whistleblowers.html.

The front cover once again has the words: "A novel based on actual events." This makes it very different from my own novels. The Roswell trilogy is allegorical fiction, intended to deliver information about the real world in the form of fantasy; but the story itself is completely imaginary. The narrative of Sekret Machines supposedly actually happened. I know that some of the story's events are based on things that do happen. I know that from real UFOlogical cases. For example, in one scene a character comes across some cattle that behave unnaturally. Many abductees report this, although most often it is an owl, not a cow. It seems that perceiving animals is a screen memory induced by the alien contact experience. One of the interludes is clearly an accurate fictionalization of the 2010 Xiaoshan Airport incident. An entire airport in China was shut down and landing planes had to do an emergency divert when an object was spotted hovering over the runway. This was blamed on an American spy balloon... yes, naturally those same objects in the US have been blamed on the Chinese; spot a pattern emerging? The second book has a slightly slower pace than the original, but still ends in a dramatic denouement with all the characters coming together. This is the second and last part of Sekret Machines, but I sense there is meant to be a third instalment. The narrative is still somewhat open-ended, even thought not all the characters survive. So far the authors have only produced an explanatory companion. I've never liked books like that; Aldous Huxley wrote one, Brave New World Revisited. Maybe at some point the story will continue. Hope you enjoyed this book review; something a bit more cheerful and relaxed for Christmas Eve. Merry Christmas to all HPANWO Voice readers.
