
The government have announced that Digital ID will no longer be mandatory, only voluntary. This is a major retreat from their previous hard-line position; and I'm pleased to say they have cancelled other unpopular policies too, such as those intended to make farmers' and pub landlords' lives a misery. This is a major battle won, but we must not get complacent; Starmer has not given up yet. Digital ID is not being scrapped! I've a feeling they will try to sneak in a rule to make it compulsory after the voluntary version has been rolled out. The infrastructure must not be put in place at all.
