Following the non-surprise and totally expected resignation
of Justice Dame Lowell Goddard QC, see: http://hpanwo-voice.blogspot.co.uk/2016/08/lowell-goddard-quits.html,
the government has appointed a new chairwoman for the "independent"
inquiry into child sexual abuse. Fourth time lucky perhaps. The latest
appointee is Prof. Alexis Jay, a social worker and not a lawyer. She led the
inquiry into the Rotherham paedophile ring scandal, an
inquiry that should never have been necessary and wouldn't have been if her own profession
had not helped cover up the crime. It might be a statistical blip with all the
women in positions of authority these days, but are the government specifically
favouring a female chair for this inquiry? Perhaps to give the process a
maternal ambiance and lull us into a false sense of security. See: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-37043545.
I wonder how long this one will last.
