Something-Gate

It doesn't have a name yet. Before long it will get one, a witticism related to the topic with the suffix "-gate". What I'm referring to is a new drama scandal that has just broken out in the UFO community. Everybody is currently talking about it; and no doubt people will ask me for my opinion, seeing as I've confronted similar situations several times in my own work. However, despite all the social media noise, we know very little about it on a factual level. Yesterday Kelly Chase uploaded a video entitled Starlight Sickness, Gaslighting, Consent Engineering and How I Got Lost In UFOlogy's Hall of Mirrors. Forty-eight minutes in, she raises a personal issue that she previously referred to in a Tweet and audio short back in April. What happened was that Kelly broke all contact with her colleague Jay Christopher King when one of the female followers of their Cosmosis podcast contacted Kelly to complain that during a private conversation with her co-host in which this person revealed a lot of personal information, Jay "crossed sexual boundaries". Kelly had originally endorsed Jay and his organization, The Experiencer Group, and felt guilty. She stresses the need for ethical professional conduct at all times when counselling experiencers. She also claims to have suffered a sexual assault herself and was denied justice, and as a result found this even more traumatic. She has since talked to other women in the group about Jay's "deeply distressing" and "concerning" behaviour. Source:   https://open.spotify.com/episode/2OvK9qsGTuehjeitfn2hi8 and: https://youtu.be/7cvIzMW3xdA?si=cm3vRevZ-rOWQZ6H&t=2882. Despite this assertion, there is no record at all of Jay Christopher King being arrested by the police or being held under suspicion of any criminal offence.

The response to this matter has been exactly what always happens when the culture war reaches any institution. Kelly Chase will, regrettably, receive a torrent of online abuse from the UFO community's troll element; indeed, it has already begun on the Twitter link she posted to yesterday's video. I condemn this behaviour unconditionally and will do anything I can to prevent it. At the same time, as somebody who has been on the receiving end of slanderous false allegations, I cannot and will not conform to the politically correct foundational maxim of "believe the Woman!" A number of pundits have already closed ranks behind Kelly, especially the backslappers for some reason; maybe because this issue reinforces their own dark, cynical and misanthropic vision of UFOlogy. I will comment to the extent of saying that Kelly does not strike me as a typical spiteful mutant feminist, the kind of woman who would habitually tell lies like this about a man. I've actually held her in very high esteem. I thought her UFO Rabbit Hole podcast was one of the best out there and took positive interest in her new perspective, see: https://hpanwo-voice.blogspot.com/2025/02/kellys-new-start.html. I met her at Contact in the Desert last year and had a good conversation with her, see: https://hpanwo-voice.blogspot.com/2025/08/kelly-chase-at-citd-2025.html. Either these allegations are true or they are false; and both possibilities are very disturbing. However, despite the certainty of many current commentators, nobody knows for sure. For this reason I'm going to leave the matter there until more information comes to light. I will return to the subject after that.

Memory Holed Movies

Sony Playstation Store is a popular retailer that millions of people use to purchase computer games, software and other kinds of media, including films and TV programmes. I have never used it myself, but I have used similar sites like Amazon, ITunes and Vimeo; but I do so reluctantly for a good reason that I'll explain. A Facebook friend has informed me that Sony Playstation Store have started deleting some of their products. In fact 551 movies and TV series are now no longer available. By no longer available I don't just mean that they are no longer for sale; I mean that they have been deleted from the platform for everybody, including people who have already rented or bought them. The titles include such classics as First Blood, Terminator 2- Judgement Day and Bridget Jones' Diary. The reason for this is that Sony PS' licence with the distributor Studio Canal has just expired and has not been renewed. The users who paid for these products are receiving no compensation at all; no refunds, no discounts, no vouchers nothing. Users who "bought" the products are being treated as if they did not actually buy them; which in a strange way, they never did. You might think this is a violation of customers' statutory rights, even theft, and it should be; but technically it isn't. You see, when you buy an online movie it's not like buying a physical product. As an analogy, if I buy an apple from a greengrocer and walk out of the shop, the shopkeeper can chase after me and snatch the apple back, but in doing so he has to give me my money back by law. However, in the case of streaming service, all you are really buying is the right to stream the product from the site indefinitely, rather than for a fixed period of time, like with Amazon's rental. That purchase time period is indefinite, but not necessarily eternal. The platform retains the legal right to terminate that access at any time unilaterally. What's more the distributor can force them to do so. Your personal user licence agreement is therefore completely non-exclusive and revocable. Read the small print next time your given the "purchase or rent the movie" option; it's completely watertight I'm afraid. Source: https://www.playstation.com/en-gb/legal/psvideocontent/.

I know many people who do not own a DVD player and discs, paper books or even read hard copies of newspapers. They live in a bare habitat of monitors and devices that provide all their entertainment and education from remote online sources. "It's ever so convenient!" they gush. "I no longer have shelves of bulky plastic cases taking up all the room in my house." They are perfect devotees of Klaus Schwab's proclamation that "You vill own nossingk und you vill be happy." Perhaps this news from Sony PS will make them think again and realize that although those shelves might be obtrusive and make your home constrictive, they are actually very precious because they contain media in digital or print form that you have purchased in the literal sense and once it is in your hands and the money has been exchanged it is completely isolated from any interference, recall or control from the retailing body. It is totally and one hundred percent your property. They cannot take it back and they cannot alter it. In previous eras before online streaming became a thing, what Sony and Studio Canal have done would be impossible. They would just have to cope with the fact that all the people who bought their products can keep them. This is why I cherish my huge collection of books and DVD's, see: https://hpanwo-tv.blogspot.com/2017/03/dvds-on-my-shelf.html and: https://hpanwo-tv.blogspot.com/2017/03/books-on-my-shelf-part-2.html. Short of an accident or theft or me deliberately ripping them up and shoving them down the toilet etc, these items are indestructible. Remember how oppressive regimes always ban books. When those regimes fell the books were always recoverable because inevitably somebody somewhere would have a copy that the censors will have missed. Imagine if modern technology had existed in those days! No need for flaming pyres in the street, the propaganda ministry would just need to press a button. There's more though. Even things you think you own on Netflix or Kindle, even if they are not withdrawn, they can be altered remotely without your knowledge or permission. This has happened to me, see: https://hpanwo-voice.blogspot.com/2020/12/1984-removed-from-kindle.html and: https://hpanwo-voice.blogspot.com/2023/03/roald-dahl-memory-holed.html. This is extremely sinister because it gives the authorities a capability to commit censorship more terrible than at any other time in history. So, please! Get DVD's, downloads and good old-fashioned paper books! I know this is tricky with movies because some home media releases aren't even doing DVD runs anymore; but the more people who buy the DVD's the more the studios will be encouraged to invest in them. People ask me why my own books aren't on e-book outlets; well, this is your answer. If you want to read Roswell Rising and its sequels then I'm afraid it's paperback or nothing, see: https://hpanwo-bb.blogspot.com/2016/08/roswell-rising-is-here.html.

Psionics the Movie

Psionics- The Minds that Summon UFO's is the long-awaited debut feature film by Patrick Scott Armstrong, well-known already in the UFO community as the presenter of the Vetted YouTube channel. Patrick has been working on this project for several years and has provided behind the scenes commentaries on his channel for all that time. He has travelled long distances across the United States and interviewed many people, including me! Rather than focusing on the usual stories of congressmen, whistleblowers and hearings, which is the more conventional UFO documentary these days, Patrick addresses the phenomenon of personal contact by visiting skywatchers, contactees, experiencers and those who study the consciousness connection to UFO's and aliens. The word "psionics" is a recent popular neologism, although it can be found in limited use from 1952; but it means something that has been delved into throughout the modern UFO era. It connects to psychical research and remote viewing. John Keel was an early pioneer of this field of study and that mission has been carried forward by many people in the modern world, including Jake Barber, a military helicopter pilot who recently made an amazing announcement that he had been involved in crash-retrievals. During this mission he has had telepathic communication with the object, see: https://hpanwo-voice.blogspot.com/2025/01/egg-ufo.html. He has since founded an organization called Skywatcher that does exactly what its name says. It has been the subject of a News Nation feature. During these events, usually at night, objects appear, most often luminous; and they perform manoeuvres and respond to the participants' voices or light signals. The best known method is Dr Steven Greer's "CE5 protocols". Skywatchers claim the viewers' mental attitude is a major factor. Positive thoughts attract more aliens. This adds to the idea that ET's communicate directly through the brain and can read our minds. Some places are what are known as "portal areas", like some places in Arizona, where a particular geology might be perfect for generating electricity which has an effect on the presence of ET's. Sometimes the people record strange noises too. These sounds are very similar to the ones picked up in English crop circles. Sometimes they allegedly contact us directly through walkie-talkies. This is not unlike the EVP or "phone calls from the dead" mystery. But aliens are alive and well, so why are they doing the same thing? Patrick and his assistant Gino try remote viewing and spoon bending, as I have done. It's strange how this also connects to extraterrestrial beings. Patrick was also accompanied on these expeditions by Ron James who has just made his own UFO themed movie, see: https://hpanwo-radio.blogspot.com/2026/05/hpanwo-show-632-ron-james.html.

Patrick's quest led him to last year's Contact in the Desert which I also attended, see: https://hpanwo-tv.blogspot.com/2025/06/ben-in-desert-2.html. He interviewed me there and a brief segment can be seen about seven minutes into the main feature; I also returned the favour at the same meeting, see: https://youtu.be/SsvSlRRR4sI?si=TG7AyZQdF4iYVm6V&t=2006. The film also features one of the many posthumous appearances of Nick Pope still waiting in numerous film cans. Patrick came across many people at the conference who were happy to report their experiences to him. Patrick is very cautious and rational the whole time. Psionics is essentially a scientific investigation and he even advises all the viewers to try these techniques for ourselves; and anybody can do this. We don't need the help or approval of the government. He interviews Mick West to learn about the skeptic side of the issue. However, Patrick remains open-minded and impressed by some of what he encounters. UAP interaction can have very positive benefits to a person's life. One man he met was healed of a drug addiction and criminal behaviour by his skywatching activity. UFO's are also nothing new. In a remote part of Utah, Patrick and Gino's guide show them ancient Amerindian rock art a thousand years old that appears to depict bizarre beings in the air and strange lights. They even carved one of the rocks into a seat in just the right place to observe the sky. What's clear in Patrick's new movie, and in many others, is that UFO's are far more complicated than we might previously have thought. It may not be as simple as creatures like us, but from another planet, visiting us; or at least not in all examples of the phenomenon. There seems to be a distinct overlap between UFO's and the rest of the paranormal. We are faced with a lot of contradictory evidence. Aliens have this aetheric element to themselves, like ghosts, who can appear and disappear or become invisible etc; but they are also obviously flesh-and-blood organisms that are closely equivalent to terrestrial animals. They make footprints where they walk and when they die they leave behind a corpse. Their vehicles are constructed of known metallic or ceramic elements, albeit with extraterrestrial isotopic ratios, and do seem to be mechanical in some way. What's the solution to this conundrum? Well, unfortunately there's still a very long way to go before we find one. Even Disclosure probably will not give us all the answers because I doubt the secret government has completely solved this mystery either. Hopefully time will tell. Psionics- The Minds that Summon UFO's has a somewhat poignant subtext for anybody who has followed Patrick on social media for a long time. This project took him several years and so much of the material could have been filmed as early as 2024. So we are seeing the last ever historical document of Patrick pre-backslapper, before he took his "second red pill". In the last few months Patrick's output has changed considerably. The man himself has reached the point, of which I sympathize, where the deficiencies of the Disclosure movement became too much to tolerate. As a result he has become cynical and bitter, even quite misanthropic towards many of the researchers and commentators whom most people rely on to keep us informed; especially those who are admittedly making money off their activities. For those of us who still maintain some positivity and patience with this process, it's getting harder and harder to justify our dogged optimism; and persuade detractors like Patrick not to quit. In my view, something is still rolling along, often behind the scenes. I have explained why many times, see: http://hpanwo.blogspot.com/2020/02/ufo-disclosure-portal.html. Ross Coulthart has a typically Australian bluntness towards his critics; that this is not some kind of entertainment for #UFOTwitter, it's a serious business and people directly uninvolved are not always entitled to know what's going on. If Patrick is proved right I will feel disappointed, but if I am proved right, Patrick will miss out on all the fun! He has uninvited himself from the party. Psionics- The Minds that Summon UFO's is now available on a house site for a reasonable fee, see: https://www.psionics.film. The basic payment also grants you access to the extended reel with longer form interviews with some of those featured... but not me this time.

A Weekend in Politics

They say the political world stops for the weekend, but obviously not this one. I'm sorry I didn't write about these updates sooner, but I've been away at the Bases conference. The unflushable turd is finally round the U-bend; yes, Keir Starmer has resigned as prime minister. He will remain in office until Labour chooses a new leader, probably when Parliament returns from their summer break. This is a complex process, far more so than with the Conservatives, and it has happened far less often. There has not been a contested Labour leadership change since 2015; and only once before during a government, when Jim Callaghan succeeded Harold Wilson. Two-Tier Starlin's announcement followed the Makerfield by-election that was won by Andy Burnham, see: https://hpanwo-radio.blogspot.com/2026/06/hpanwo-show-635-makerfield-election.html. This is a disappointing result, in my view; although Sargon of Akkad is pleased Restore Britain came third right on the polling prediction. I had hoped for better, but maybe my expectations were too high. Labour did not only win they actually doubled their majority. It could be this is just residual Northern tribalism, after all the Makerfield area has been a Labour stronghold since the party was founded in 1900; but it could also be because the official rightwing opposition in the shape of Reform UK has not won the public's trust. Good; it does not deserve it. At the same time fewer people than was necessary dared to leap over the chasm and back Restore. At the same time a few Restorers still voted tactically for Reform, despite the amazing opportunity Restore presented in Makerfield. The fears about vote splitting were unfounded; it would have made no difference to the outcome. Reform was polled to lose by a narrow margin, but in the end they only got 15,000; this is a huge failure for Farage's party. Hopefully this will be a lesson learned for those closet Loweists. A tactical vote for Reform is jumping into a lifeboat that is also sinking. There are more seaworthy alternatives currently paddling away from the Parliamentary Titanic. I suspect this "Reform-or-bust" delusion kept a lot of the electorate away from the polls and hampered the success or Restore. See: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ehu6C3jK9bw.

Another lesson the people did not seem to understand was that their constituency has been exploited by the Westminster elite, the gaggle of suited bureaucrats, mostly Southerners, who are the nation's demolition crew. The man they elected, Josh Simons, has been removed, with his permission, and therefore their decision has been spat on; and for what? For a greater national and international political agenda. Andy Burnham is being considered to be on some sort of hero's journey, a Paul Atreides who is destined to save the Labour Party. It is extraordinary to think that a man who was not even an MP until last Friday could be prime minister within two months. What's more this outcome is being discussed in the media as a certainty, as if it were all planned from the start, before Josh Simons'.... sorry! Lord Simons'... resignation. It's as if the leadership contest is a mere formality, a foregone conclusion. This displays a major problem with the British political system that most other countries don't suffer. We, the people, cannot elect our head of government. They are merely selected by the majority party in the House of Commons. Other nations, such as the USA, have a separate election to appoint their head of executive power, in this case it is President Trump. I agree with Jacob Rees-Mogg, election to public office is a sacred duty and is not something to be bought, sold, bartered or traded for the fools' gold of more widespread power struggles. If I were Josh Simons I would never have quit. The party could then expel me; fine, I would sit on as an independent MP. Another good point Jacob makes is that this situation really does require a general election, even though it is not constitutionally necessary. This transformation is too radical and there is too much public disapproval. What will happen if... when Burnham gets into number 10? Nothing will improve, that's for sure. Probably most people won't even notice the difference. The one bit of good news from the Makerfield by-election is that the Tories came in just above Count Binface... By the way, Happy Brexit Day, ten years on!

What UFOlogists Say about Disclosure Day

In my recent review of the new film Disclosure Day, see: https://hpanwo-tv.blogspot.com/2026/06/disclosure-day-film-review.html, I did an analysis of the mainstream critics' pronouncements of Spielberg's summer blockbuster. I deliberately avoided all reviews and interviews until after I had seen the film so I could make up my own mind. When I read the various movie columnists I saw that opinion was very divided. Then reviews started coming in from the UFO community. This took a few days longer because, unlike official journalists, we do not get invited to press previews. I was surprised, and a bit dismayed, to find that generally the UFO-osphere regards the film much less favourably than the mainstream media; and that is quite rare. I think a lot of it was disappointment. Our hopes were so high for Disclosure Day and we were hyping it up to be some kind of miracle. I myself tried to keep that instinct in check, and in my opinion it lived up to my expectations. That wasn't the only reason though; I suspect the way many UFOlogists have become more downhearted lately also contributed. (I'll avoid links to the following because there would be too many.) I was not surprised to find that the backslappers tended to be the ones who were most anti. They took their usual cynical "It's all a grift!" line. The skeptics were, of course, even more opposed. PZ Myers called it "mush-brained mystical bullshit through and through." His video is called I saw Disclosure Day so you don't have to. The thumbnail is the well-known image of Scanlon sitting in the dive chair with his gum-shield and grimace and the words: "This is what I looked like when I was watching Disclosure Day." One thing I did not expect was the hostility from the ultra-woo contingent; the believers in blue chickens, time travel and Antarctic temples etc. They all hated it. I recall one lady, whom I will not name, being furious at the idea of empathy towards the greys because she regards all greys as evil. "If I see a grey I'll kick its arse!" she hissed. Not all aliens are good guys by any means, but to make such a sweeping judgement of all greys is totally false and ignorant. Another woman, somebody I know and usually like, also took a very boorish line. She said she'd read a load of reviews and decided it was a total psyop so she decided to avoid it. Why can't she make up her own mind?

Condemnation is not universal though; Ross Coulthart, Dave Hodrien Andrew McGrillen and Richard Dolan enjoyed it. I think those with a more widespread interest, hopeful feelings about Disclosure and a more positive attitude are suited for getting the most out of this film. There are exceptions though. Surprisingly Bryce Zabel was not impressed; he felt it was not credible and too much like an action movie. Darcy Weir had mixed feelings about it. Steven Greenstreet astounded me. I assumed he would hate the film, but he actually had a lot of positive words to add along with his predictable scorn. I actually even agreed with some of his points. He said that the bad guys were too incompetent, and that's true. See how easy it was for Daniel to steal one of their cars and how they fell for the trick when he and Jane dumped it over the cliff. Boyd couldn't shoot straight during the train scene even though the range was almost point-blank. Why are Wardex such a threat to the truth coming out when they are that amateurish? I found it interesting to read what my fellow conspiratorial questers thought of Disclosure Day. Would it surprise you? I think it did me... I have yet to find any review from anybody as pro-DD as my own.

Kid Starmer

Our fearful non-leader has just released his most ridiculous speech to date. When you get over the hilarity of it, it's also one of his most sinister. Dressed in a tracksuit like a teenager himself, Keir Starmer announces that he intends to wield his new powers under the Online Safety Act. Saying "hand on heart", pronouncing the last word with a glottal stop to show how down-to-earth he is, that he all he wants is for children "to be safe and happy". He then explains how using social media "harms" them. Interesting that the previous attempt to bring in this legislation was called the "online harms bill". So he's going to ban all under-sixteens from using social media. He knows how difficult this is and how much resistance he will get from Silicon Valley... meaning Elon Musk, but he says he will "take them on!" Like Elon couldn't beat down Starmer with the back of his knee. YouTube does not publish dislikes on its thumb display anymore and videos like this will tell you why. The upload has 26,000 views and only 414 likes... Did everybody else just not thumb it at all? Source: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FS07X1HvPEc. Amazingly, for a change, Britain is not the first country to try out this new Big Brother law. Canada and Australia have... trust the colonies to try and up us in any game! In both nations it is failing badly. It does not protect children at all, in fact it increases risk because the platforms in those states drop their house child protection protocols because they don't think they need them anymore. As I explain in the background links below, the government have no intention of doing anything to make children safe online. If they did then they would be working with a pair of Ukrainian parents whose sons have been sucked into prostitution; as one Facebook user pithily put it: "How can you be a child protector and a nonce at the same time?" Zoomers are the most tech-savvy of all generations and can easily find ways to bypass the filters anyway.

The system will involve all social media users proving their identity, in other words "encouraging" people to adopt digital ID via the backdoor. Once the infrastructure is in place it can be ratcheted into any role the controllers want. These user databases will not be secure, by the way. The existing ones in Australia were hacked and a number of young women were doxed on 4Chan. These sentiments about child safety are meaningless except as an excuse to introduce full internet control; I've predicted this so many times. The result of this mean that, assuming Starmer gets away with his dastardly plan, you will no longer be able to post anonymously. Until now if you held private political opinions that you knew your employer could justify sacking you for, you could still express them by setting up an account without your real name. You can no longer do that. That is the whole point. The government are scared of people doing that, as I've said before. Maybe this is hopeful sign because it is most definitely an act of desperation. They are truly going for double-or-quits. The good news is that there are many ways to resist this tyranny using VPN's and supporting the lawsuits etc. It won't just be Elon either. Even the less principled social media giants will be tempted to challenge the government simply because of revenue loss. The current regime is not all-powerful; in fact they remind me of the East German administration a week before the fall of the Berlin Wall. They are acting tough and in control, but they are not. Fear not, readers; freedom is an irresistible force and the government are not the immovable object they want us to think they are.

Most writers fear one thing above all others: plagiarism; and they desire one thing above all others: inspiration. Strangely enough the difference between the two is very small and sometimes difficult to discern. (If I were in a cynical mood I would say it is sales figures!) For the first time I have come across another author who I am pretty sure has read the Roswell trilogy and it has given him ideas. Hush is a long, complex and intricate story by MD Selig, somebody I'd not previously heard of, involving a virtual laundry list of theories currently circulating in conspiratorial UFOlogy. They include the Nimitz footage, humanoid aliens living among us, catastrophic Disclosure, secret organizations, deep underground military bases, MH370, reptilians and adrenochrome harvesting, what the characters call "screamshit". The story follows Vyla Kells, a physicist who works at CERN who ends up joining MJ12 and investigating UFO's. It turns out she has family connections that make her a perfect applicant for the job. She also has some psionic abilities, including remote viewing. Her style of remote viewing is unusual though; she can not only see people and things in other places and times, she can place herself inside them and temporarily "become" them in the sense that she finds herself entering their own consciousness; seeing what they see, feeling what they feel and even thinking their thoughts. In this way she has insights into the Roswell incident and other conspiracies that nobody else could ever achieve. Oddly enough this concept also occurs in the new movie Disclosure Day, see: https://hpanwo-tv.blogspot.com/2026/06/disclosure-day-film-review.html. It was also the basis of Delores Cannon's mediumship. Like many people inside the programme, Vyla finds herself on the receiving end of surveillance and harassment. On her adventures she meets some very unusual individuals with names like "Plato" and "Swizzle". She discovers that people who appear to be humans from earth might in fact be nothing of the sort. They have intentions on humanity that are extremely disturbing and frightening; not least because, like everything else in this book, they might well be based on something that is true. This nightmarish theme may not be suitable for all readers. The author seems as embedded and institutionalised into the UFO, paranormal and conspiratorial world as I am. He has clearly studied the work of Ashton Forbes when it comes to the narrative about MH370. Some of the names mentioned in the story are real people, such as Michael Herrera, a member of the US Marine Corps who reports an encounter with an ET/secret space programme craft in Indonesia. Phil Schneider is also mentioned, a man who claimed to have fought against ET's in the DUMB at Dulce. One of the book's characters is called Eileen Fanton, a name that sounds very much like Lorien Fenton, who is a renowned figure in the UFOlogy and SSP research community, see: https://hpanwo-voice.blogspot.com/2025/06/ben-emlyn-jones-on-fenton-perspective.html and: https://hpanwo-tv.blogspot.com/2025/06/ben-in-desert-2.html. Selig must have heard of her and may have incorporated her name into his choice of handle for the character, if only even subconsciously. On the technical side, the book takes some getting used to. The dialogue paragraphing diverges from the conventional form with quotes being on a different line to the person speaking. After you learn to deal with that though, the story is absorbing and enthralling. Was MD Selig inspired by me? Quite possibly; he seems to know about almost everybody else in the UFO conspirasphere; he has to have come across HPANWO at some point and maybe also my own fiction. If so then do I object? No. In fact I'm glad to have given him this gift; and I don't care if Hush sells ten times as many copies as Roswell Rising. Actually I'm pleased for him. It is unhealthy to envy the success of others. Other conspiratologists have reviewed Hush by MD Selig, such as Laura Eisenhower and Barbara Lamb. I'm happy to add my name to that list.

Ben Emlyn-Jones live at the Mablethorpe Group 3

I will be speaking at the Mablethorpe Group on Monday the 7th of September. My lecture will be entitled: Zombies, Viruses and what the government really know! Zombies are well-known figures of mythology and horror fiction, and their profile is steadily increasing in recent books and films. However more and more they have been appearing in the media and in official government publications portrayed as real or semi-real. What’s going on? The venue is: The Dunes Complex (which room they use will depend on how many people confirm attending), Central Promenade, Mablethorpe, Lincolnshire LN12 1RG. The event starts at 7.30 PM. There is no entrance fee, but the organizers request a voluntary donation.

Cyclical Phenomena

A few months ago I wrote an article about curling and the mysterious element in the sport that nobody can explain, see: https://hpanwo-voice.blogspot.com/2026/02/curling-mystery.html. I have since come across something very similar in a video by one of the most distinctive science YouTubers, Simon Whistler, the most charismatic baldy since... well, me. It's all about bicycles. This is a mode of transport that is surprisingly recent. The first one was invented in Scotland in 1839. For such a relatively simple machine I'm surprised nobody thought of it a long time before. For comparison, the first working steam locomotive was invented less than forty years previously; and the first car was put on the market barely forty years later. You'd think those two were far greater engineering challenges. The "safety bike", one with frame mounted pedals and a chain drive connected to a crank on the rear wheel, was first built in the 1880's. It was so called because if you fell off it wasn't from such a great height as you would from a penny-farthing. The safety's design worked so well it remains fundamentally unchanged to the present day. I was therefore very surprised when I found out that there are phenomena associated with bicycles that cannot be explained. The simplicity of the mechanism should mean that the physics of its function would be comprehensive to a pre-Newtonian; but no.

A bike only has two wheels and stays upright by the rider making constant tiny movements to its direction that counters its inevitable imbalance. The rider can also do this by shifting their weight slightly. It takes a while for a new rider to achieve this, but after a bit of experience this movement becomes automatic and subconscious. This should mean that a bicycle moving without a rider should immediately topple over, but it doesn't always. Under some conditions a riderless bike will keep going for as long as it has forward motion. If you push it down a hill this could be for miles. Why? Well, one theory from the late nineteenth century is that the rotating wheels remain in a rigid state because they are spinning, rather like a gyroscopes. This was disputed in the 1970's. Another theory is that the front wheel acts like a caster on a shopping trolley, slightly trailing the centre of its steering axis; but this was eventually also discredited at about the same time. So what is the real cause of this strange self-balancing effect; and why does it not work on a bike with a rider? This movie clip demonstrates the difference, see: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HMV0PCUzkag. Source: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aJkJvS2ou1E. As with the curling conundrum, this is another example of how the very simplest of physical systems sometimes reveal themselves to be only a thin veil of the mundane covering the unfathomable. I like the quote at the end of the source video by the science writer Michael Brooks. Who needs black holes and dark matter when we have bike enigmas that evade explanation even more? Would an equivalent of CERN be necessary for us to find out how a bicycle really works? It makes me wonder about perpetual motion, and also the strange properties of Eric Laithwaite's spinning wheel; see the background link. There is definitely something fundamental about the universe we have yet to find out; and the initial clue has come from a machine that millions of people use every day for transport.

More Summer Horror

Who needs the Met Office when you have newspapers? The Daily Mirror has published an article that claims we're about to experience a "blast", meaning a period of warm summer weather. The temperatures are illustrated differently on modern weather maps. The cheerful circular dots with numbers in have been replaced by coloured thermal contours that deepen with redness to indicate more heat. It looks as if Great Britain is bleeding and festering under the deadly sun. The forecast states that this new heatwave will manifest by late next week? How can they know that? British weather cannot be predicted that far into the future. Even the Met Office themselves have admitted that after about eight days, judging the conditions becomes mostly guesswork... unless it's being engineered of course. Source: https://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/heatwave-weather-forecast-met-office-37234011. Of course if the heatwave does appear the Mirror can say its prediction was accurate. Weather forecasts used to be fun and humourous, a uniquely British kind of media phenomenon. Now they are loaded with frightening imagery and portents of doom. The unspoken moral of the story is that we need tyrannical world government now to relieve us of this mortal danger.
