Since the story of Capt. Martyn Smith first came to light Geoffrey and Richard have spoken to him directly. The former Emirates pilot has located his logbook for that time period and has discovered that his initial recall was wrong. The route fromMelbourne
to Dubai is a regular one and
Emirates schedules one flight per day. He was first officer of EK407, but he
was on the 8th to the 9th of March 2014 flight, not the 7th to the 8th. This
has been verified by another pilot on that flight and the carrier's flight
records portal. This means he cannot possibly have seen MH370; he was
twenty-four hours too late. Source: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8A7j1rNsL9s.
So what did he see? Capt. Smith still insists he did see a "known
unknown", an aircraft with no transponder. He did report it to ATC exactly
as he said he did. If it was not the missing Malaysian airliner then it must have
been something else. My guess is it was a military aircraft of some kind. The
fact that the contact was not on a flight plan and had no transponder means it
must have been on active operations. Was the operation something to do with
MH370? Quite possibly. This supports the information given to Ghyslain
Wattrelos, known as "the angry Frenchman". He has every right to be
angry; his wife and two of his three children were on MH370. He reports that he
was met by a shady individual in a car in an underground carpark, like in a real
life spy novel. The stranger told him there was a military aircraft in the
vicinity. What happened next is a bit vague and complex, but Mr Wattrelos
believes the plane was shot down. Hopefully we'll learn more soon. Armada 7806
is making good progress on its voyage. It's sailing to conserve fuel and is
heading slightly to the south of its previous track which means it is probably
going to check out the Blelly-Marchand hotspot which it should reach on Tuesday
morning GMT, that's in the late afternoon local time.
