The Bases Project has been targeted yet again by an internet
assault. This new attack is not so much new as simply a resurrection of the one
carried out a year ago, see background links below. The very same accusations
as were made back then have been repeated now by different people. The motive is
once again a personal dislike of Miles Johnston. The members of the UFO/paranormal/conspiracy
theory community have very short memories. The crime Miles was accused of is
one of the most heinous it is possible to commit. Last year I said at the time
that if one word of these allegations were true then Miles would very swiftly
be put in jail. Nobody is asking the obvious question of why, if he is guilty,
is he still currently walking the streets twelve months later. As I said,
the reason this internet lynch mob has been unleashed once more is because a
number of people who have private conflicts with Miles have joined forces and
decided to accuse him of the ultimate act of depravity. The accusations are not
true, the perpetrators know that they
are not true; but it doesn't matter that
they are not true. The accusers still believe they are justified. They are not.

I don't know what the rights and wrongs are of the personal
trouble Miles Johnston is in with other people within the UFO/para/con movement
and it is not my place to judge. Miles and I also clashed stridently several
weeks ago over the correct and equitable manner in which to retaliate against
his enemies. The problem I have is when people take a completely personal and
inconsequential quarrel and aggrandize it into a fantasy scenario where their
foe is actually a generally evil person and a threat to everybody; the most
common falsehood is that they are a government shill. In Miles' case, that he
is a perverted criminal. Internet justice is medieval. There has to be a better way of resolving these kinds of
situations than the current ordeal-by-hashtag. I have suggested setting up our

If we don't do something then our community will devour itself in an orgy of
infighting. Frankly, we have far more important issues to deal with.
