Praise the Paperback!

In 1962 a book was published by a small independent house in Ohio, USA. It was written by David Bunger, a pilot who had taken part in Operation Highjump back in 1946 and decided to write a "tell all" revelation of everything he knew and had kept secret for seventeen years. Shortly after the book was published it was withdrawn from print and the house sent recall orders to all the bookshops that were stocking it. They also requested that all people who had bought copies redeem them for generous refunds way above the cover price. Bunger died six years later in 1968. According to his family, they had been told by "somebody" never to mention the manuscript again. It was thought that the book had been successfully suppressed with every copy ever printed now in the hands of the government who, I'm guessing, made a big bonfire of them. However, in 2004 a single copy turned up at a car boot sale in Oregon. It had been hidden in a hollowed out space inside a bible. Somebody obviously had deliberately concealed it for forty-two years. The book was said to be the true story of Operation Highjump, something I myself have covered in a number of publications, for example: https://hpanwo.blogspot.com/2008/07/jack-of-antarctic.html and: https://hpanwo-tv.blogspot.com/2016/09/jack-of-antarctic-rip.html. David Bunger's book supports a lot of the alterative theories about this mysterious operation. What's more, I actually believe we should question the official story of Highjump and the people who took part in it; but there is a problem with this specific element. There is no evidence the book ever existed. We are never told any details about it; it's title, ISBN, publisher's name etc. The people who supposedly unearthed the one known surviving copy in Oregon have never been identified. This tale, in all likelihood, seems to be a piece of social media fiction. Source: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N7uhZPbKcBo.

That is not the point though. Whether the lost book by David Bunger is real or not, or even whether you believe that Operation Highjump was just a scientific expedition that just happened to need a massive naval taskforce and six hundred marines; it doesn't matter. The issue here is that if this story had been true and an insider, a whistleblower in other words, had decided to release a book that blew the lid off the secret, would it have worked in theory? My answer is, quite possibly. A book is a great way of revealing secrets. David supposedly released his book in 1962, but what if he had been writing today? Many authors don't bother publishing a real book at all; it is more expensive and time-consuming, for example the works by Si Rosser which I have reviewed, see: https://hpanwo-voice.blogspot.com/2024/10/the-galileo-project-by-si-rosser.html. Most of these are only available on Amazon Kindle. Therein lies the problem, and regular readers will know where I am going here. To suppress a whistleblower's manuscript, or even just to edit it, in a world where there are only e-books, the powers-that-shouldn't-be would only need to press a button. This is why it is vital that we always, always get the paperback editions of our books, especially titles we know are about a highly sensitive matter and therefore run the risk of being quashed. A real paper book, once it has sold enough copies over a wide enough area, become virtually indestructible. The book-burners can never guarantee that they have destroyed every single copy. They never know if somebody has one hidden away in their attic somewhere; and indeed this happened historically when oppressive regimes fell. For this reason I have only released my own books as print-on-demand paperbacks, see the links below.

It is far quicker, cheaper and easier to publish a paper book these days than it has ever been before. I understand the people who prefer an e-book if they are going on holiday and don't want to carry loads of books in their luggage etc; a little electronic reader device is so much smaller and lighter. I don't have an issue with people doing that for convenience. The issue I have is when people depend on it completely. I know people whose homes are bare of everything but electronic screens. They watch their TV and movies from on-demand sites, their books and newspapers on computer readers etc. Sure, they have far more space than I do. Their rooms are not cluttered by shelves of volumes and DVD cases, but what about when those sources fail? This is why I insisted on waiting for the DVD edition of Disclosure Day, see: https://hpanwo-voice.blogspot.com/2026/09/disclosure-day-dvd.html. I do find it ironic and darkly apt that Amazon have named their e-book service "Kindle". It's a word that also means firewood. They're literally telling us what their plans are. Don't fall for it!
