Grass Circles

As the 2017 crop circle season draws to a close, believers in the hundred percent man-made hypothesis slap each other on the backs, as they do every year, in a curious mixture of frustration and self-congratulatory glee over the fact that there are still people out there who don't accept their explanation for the phenomenon. In the background links below I explain in detail why I am one of those people. One fact that is often overlooked by media reports into crop circles is that they are far older than most people think. They have been reported for several centuries before the modern crop circle era that began in the 1970's, albeit previously they were much rarer. Also patterns similar to crop circles sometimes appear in other matrices. It's as if whatever intelligence creates these patterns sees the crop simply as a convenient medium in the absence of which they would use another. Sometimes equally intricate and beautiful patterns appear in snow, without any footprints near them, see: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Eou22AVDZc. And in sand, see: http://www.heart.co.uk/news/quirky/weird-wonderful/incredible-amazing-sand-cirlces-shapes-beach/. Many of these are created by an artist called Julian Richardson who used to make crop circles, but not all are. Again, we see a lack of footprints that would be present if humans were involved.

The most inexplicable and mysterious of these alternative crop circles are in grass. These have appeared in several places and are believed to have started in the Netherlands; indeed Crop Circle Connector has started reporting them as well, see: http://www.cropcircleconnector.com/2014/hoeven2/hoeven2014b.html. However there are much older records of grass circles in southern Africa. The first mention of them can be found in literature of explorers from around 1920 and it describes strange circular formations in the grasslands of the Namib Desert, a sparsely-habited arid region that stretches along the coast of southwest Africa from southern Angola to the Cape Province of South Africa, see: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/africa/3587431.stm. Many scientists have proposed explanations such as the activity of termites, soil chemistry and a collective plant growth strategy connected to the dry climate. However the people of the local Himba culture call them "fairy circles" and believe they are the work of Mukuru, their creator god. In the absence of any other conclusion why should we not take that possibility seriously? Fairy circles are not to be confused with fairy rings. Fairy rings are mushrooms that grow in a circle on grass in wetter climes; and this is simply caused by the mycelium, the underground part of the fungus, spreading into the soil and consuming nutrients in a particular way. Grass rings have no such obvious mundane explanations and therefore I must speculate that they have more in common with the crop circle phenomenon than they do with biological forces. Also it seems grass circles are spreading. They've been observed in parts of Australia as well as outside their heartland in the Namib Desert. Could this mean that the "artist", whoever... or whatever... they are, wants more people to see their portfolio?

Men-Only Bowls Club

Chesterfield Bowling Club claims to be the oldest in the world. It was established in 1294 at its current home ground in Derbyshire. It has always been a club for men only yet a former member has accused it of being "stuck in its ways". He has left and joined a mixed-sex bowls club. Bowls is a traditional English game usually played by older people. It is generally more popular with men, but that doesn't mean something is wrong that needs to be fixed; it's just that human nature varies when generalizing groups. There is nothing preventing any woman who wants to play bowls from playing. This is a point I brought up when several people complained that there were supposedly not enough female UFOlogists. In fact attempts to force a balance in such circumstances can be extremely destructive, see: http://hpanwo-voice.blogspot.co.uk/2016/10/adx-files-38-women-in-ufology.html. Chesterfield Bowling Club is not entirely men only; they have a "ladies day" once a year and there is an old photo of such an event in the source article below. They have polled their members and voted to remain men-only. This is despite the former member blaming this supposed stodginess for the club's financial problems. They are old even by the standards of the sport; the youngest member is sixty-six. Source: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-derbyshire-41011618. I'm glad they have stuck by their principles and it's a shame the Royal Troon Golf Club did not, see: http://hpanwo-voice.blogspot.co.uk/2016/07/royal-troon-admits-women.html. The issue here is the double standard. Feminists who object to man-spaces invariably are open and proud members of woman-spaces. There are Women's Institute branches all over the world. Every academic institution has a women's organization, along with black groups and LGBT groups etc. It is only white heterosexual males who are denied this right to free association and self-actualization. This is not fair and I think there is a sinister mind control agenda behind it. And, so predictably... there is a women's bowls club too, see: http://www.wwba.co.uk/.

2017 American Eclipse

Solar eclipses are not rare events; in fact a total eclipse of the sun occurs at least once every eighteen months. They don't always occur in the same place though and a single spot on the earth will experience totality only about once every three to four hundred years on average. I've never seen a total eclipse although there have been two in Oxford that have been close to total in recent decades, 1999 and 2015. Tomorrow there will be an eclipse that will be called "the Great American Eclipse" because its route looks almost designed to provide the best view from within the United States of America. The USA is still one of the most powerful and influential nations on earth, therefore this eclipse is being widely publicized. It will begin at dawn in the central Pacific Ocean and will head for the US west coast appearing first in Oregon at 9.05 AM local time, that's 5.05 PM British Summer Time. The path of totality will be a seventy-mile-wide corridor running from the Pacific North West and Rocky Mountain states of Oregon, Idaho and Wyoming; then into Nebraska, Missouri and through the Deep South states through to the Atlantic coast at Charleston, South Carolina. A person standing still at sea level will experience two minutes and forty seconds of totality. Outside the totality zone the eclipse will be a partial one to a greater or lesser degree. It will be visible from northwest Europe only as a bite-sized partial segment just before sunset. The cause of a solar eclipse is very simple; the moon travels between the sun and the earth blocking out some or all of its rays. The experience is like night suddenly falling for a short time; no longer than seven minutes thirty-two seconds. It's easy to work out when eclipses will occur in the future by calculating the movement of the moon and sun with the rotation of the earth, see: https://www.timeanddate.com/eclipse/solar/2017-august-21.

However, for superstitious people, the experience of an eclipse can be frightening and loaded with meaning, usually malevolent. Eclipses have been responsible for hysteria, mass-panic, belief that the world has ended and multiple suicides. The USA in the early 21st century is sadly not immune to this and there almost certainly will be some kind adverse action tomorrow afternoon for particular kinds of people, especially in rural and insular areas of the country where the Bible and the gun still rule as the twin pillars of civilization. It doesn't help that the first place in America to see the eclipse is called Salem. This is an infamous name in American history because in 1692 there was a trial in Salem in which twenty people were convicted of witchcraft in a scene reminiscent of medieval Europe. Most of them were hung from trees and the others died in prison. This crime took place in a different Salem though; one in Essex County, Massachusetts on the other end of the continent; the Salem that will start the eclipse lies near the coast of Oregon. Nevertheless the same name alone might be enough to convince some Americans that this is the date chosen by God to initiate the Last Days as foretold in the Book of Revelations. Who knows what people in that state of mind might do? As a result the emergency services and National Guard will be on standby, especially in and around Salem. Many Americans are followers of Wicca, a neopagan religion inspired by ancient pre-Christian British rites. The eclipse is called the "Black Moon" in Wicca and it is very meaningful spiritually, but not necessarily bad. Source: http://www.neonnettle.com/features/1128-monday-s-total-solar-eclipse-has-us-national-guard-on-standby-here-s-why. The same goes for its significance in astrology, see: https://astrologyking.com/solar-eclipse-august-2017/. The focus on the United States with this eclipse may be a portent for radical change in that country, perhaps it is connected to the rise of Donald Trump and the "2016 Effect", see: https://hpanwo-voice.blogspot.co.uk/2017/01/coronation-of-god-emperor.html. This is also the day that the first commercial flight will land at St Helena Airport, although the eclipse will not be visible from the island, see: https://hpanwo-voice.blogspot.co.uk/2017/08/st-helena-airport-maiden-flight.html. Noon on that same day has also been chosen... coincidentally, for the moment when Big Ben's chimes stop for about four years of building work, see: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-40922169. There are many public events, street parties and other celebrations to mark the eclipse. I hope my American readers all enjoy it. Be careful not to look at the sun without one of the safe viewing methods, see: https://www.space.com/33797-total-solar-eclipse-2017-guide.html. Also tune into Space Weather on the HPANWO Show on HPANWO Radio for a complete report next Thursday, see links column.

St Helena Airport Maiden Flight

Back in June, the access contract for St Helena Airport was signed. It was awarded to the South African operator SA Airlink, see: http://hpanwo-voice.blogspot.co.uk/2017/06/st-helena-airport-access-contract.html. The airline will be carrying out the first ever commercial flight to St Helena Airport on Monday the 21st of August 2017 (Oddly enough this will be the day of the Great American Eclipse; are these people astrologers?). The aircraft will be SA Airlink's brand new Embraer E190, a medium range twin-engine jet that can carry between eighty to a hundred and twenty-four passengers. Unfortunately all the tickets have been reserved for VIP's among the SA Airlink executives and the St Helena Government on this historic celebratory flight; but if this proving flight goes well a full regular schedule will begin, and after that you will be able to purchase a ticket and fly to St Helena on easy terms. The route will eventually be extended to Ascension. The plane will depart Johannesburg at 7 AM local time, that's 6 AM British Summer Time, and will stopover at Windhoek in Namibia for half an hour before setting out over the Atlantic Ocean towards St Helena. It is expected to land on St Helena at 1.15 PM local time, that's 2.15 PM BST (St Helena does not change its clocks in spring and uses Greenwich Mean Time all year round). Source: https://whatthesaintsdidnext.com/2017/07/22/flights-st-helena-johannesburg-cape-town-announced/. The stay of execution for the faithful old RMS St Helena will then sadly be over and she will be retired in February next year. After that she will probably head for the breakers yard. This maiden commercial flight to St Helena is the final step in a process that was begun when construction of the airport commenced in 2012. I began covering this subject in March 2014, see background links below. The first ever landing at St Helena Airport took place there in September 2015; a Beechcraft light aircraft was sent there to help with a medical emergency. Since then there have been thirty-one other landings, mostly test missions, but there has been a helicopter as well and two military aircraft on classified missions; see background links below. However Monday's flight marks the start of normal access; in other words, it is the moment when St Helena Airport joins the international list of active passenger aviation transport hubs. This day, more than any other milestone, marks the moment when the gates of global society are swung open and the outside world pours in onto that little island. For better or for worse... or maybe a bit of both. There is no going back now. The dye is cast.
