Blocked by Marianna Spring

I have had the dubious honour of being blocked by Marianna Spring on Twitter. She is not my only hate-follow, but she is the one I reply to the most. The BBC propagandist has about eighty-six thousand followers and probably the majority are her critics. I'm guessing this because most of her comments are not complimentary. She has complained in several interviews that she receives messages that include death threats and misogynist abuse. Now, ironically, none of those kinds of messages have ever come from me. I have been very disapproving of her and even sarcastic, as was the case with my final Tweet to her, but I've always been polite. The fact that she blocked me could well be because she knows who I am; in fact she is probably reading these words right now (in which case I say: Marianna, get a better job!). All I did was reply to a Tweet in which she was revealing a photo of herself taken for the graphics of her new Radio 4 show Marianna in Conspiracyland. I posted the image you see below and the words: "This one is more apt". I would never endorse, in fact I totally oppose, any personal attacks that are illegal or insulting directed towards Marianna, or anyone for that matter; but she has to accept that many people oppose what she is doing. She is attempting to create an informational dictatorship. Her latest effort is "BBC Verify" and it is as cringeworthy as its name suggests, see: https://twitter.com/BBCBreakfast/status/1660536033572794369. Another possibility is that she, or whoever is managing her social media, would rather block reasonable and polite critics than internet thugs who only hurl abuse at her. Then she can make the false point that the whole Conspirasphere consists solely of people like that.

  2. UKColumn recently featured this BBC Verify show on one of their news programmes and, if I recall correctly, they invited Marianna Spring (who they suspect was watching) to join them for an interview!

Any chance you could get her on HPANWO, Ben? 😃

  3. Hi Glowtone. Did Marianna actually appear on UKC?
I'm not sure I'd be able to talk to her face-to-face after what she did to Richard.

  4. No, they only did a section about her and the new BBC Verify show she's doing. They showed the new trailer Marianna Spring did for her show (which they discussed) and then Mike Robinson (the presenter) made a comment indirectly towards her inviting her to get in touch. 😃

Yes, what she did to Richard D. Hall is unforgivable. Typical BBC puppet!!!

  5. Didn't think she was up to a REAL debate, GT.
On today's 3rd Rail Trevor and I will be covering BBC Verify. It will be posted this evening on HPANWO Radio.
    Cheers.

  6. Sadly most 'conspiracy theorists' don't seem to check their 'facts' which is why so many 'conspiracy theories' seem to re-emerge years later to a new audience despite being debunked previously.

As much as there is irony that a media outlet in the BBC itself previously guilty of bias is now promoting a verification service it should come as no surprise given the misuse of social media over the intervening years. Again the irony shouldn't be lost on the so called 'free speech' platforms populated in the main by 'truth seekers' and 'conspiracy theorists' have the most disinformation and outright lies (Mariana is more generous by calling these mistruths) which could be why so many people have succumbed to irrational incorrect nonsense (flat earth anyone?) Sadly even the 'mainstream' ones have become infected for 'traction'.

The savvy amongst us know you can tell a clickbait lie and get a million views which is beneficial for the individuals advertising revenue etc. Do conspiracy theorists ever question why the people claiming things say what they say, or why so many 'normies' pivoted to conspiracy theories during the covid pandemic? It wasn't that they had suddenly 'seen the light' it because their incomes dried up and they realised there was money to be made on social media chatting bollox to a receptive audience desperately looking for answers. Now that this has spawned thousands of 'covidiot conspiracy theorists' that seem to have taken on every alternative viewpoint going no matter how ridiculous to get views.

It is more harmful to society to destroy trust in a free press than any conspiracy theory so it is only fair that people are taught how the free press operates to regain that trust (mission statement of BBC verify is to show BBC transparency).

We pay for it, therefore we expect facts and truths, not bias and lies.

  7. Good grief, I've never read such a long tirade of factless rhetoric in all my years online! You're not "Skeptic of the North" by any chance are you? If so, I took your deconversion course and reviewed it on the Voice q.v. Didn't work though!
