Some good news! A court has ruled that the so-called Stonehenge tunnel proposal is unlawful and has cancelled the plan. The judge, Mr Justice Holgate, specifically referred to the proposal's rejection of alternative routes as recommended by the UNESCO convention. He said the transport secretary did not take into account the damage done to the antiquities in terms of "each individual asset". The government are now considering their next move. They may succeed by suggesting a new longer tunnel that is built further away from the monument, but that is exactly what campaigners were asking them to do anyway. Thank goodness that even in Clown World sometimes reason and fairness prevail.
