Four Pilots Die

 

British Airways has posted a notice on social media announcing that four of their pilots have died. Considering that the carrier employs about 4500 licensed pilots four of them passing away at the same time is statistically concerning. Pilots are generally healthy people and, indeed, need to keep themselves fit because the Civil Aviation Authority requires them to have regular doctor's checkups and can ground a pilot over a health problem; even if it is not immediate, like an unusual heartbeat or high blood pressure. There is a genuine memorial in an airport with four photos of the pilots and four condolences books. The question has to be asked whether the pilots have had the Covid 19 vaccine and if so whether they died as a result. One of the vaccines was withdrawn a few weeks ago when a number of people suffered blood clots after being given it. I don't know whether the vaccine is compulsory for aviators; it now is for care home staff. I can imagine pilots who fly international routes will be put under a lot of pressure to be vaccinated. The airline is so concerned about these questions that in the very Tweet announcing the sad news they also added: "There is no truth whatsoever in the claims on social media speculating that the four deaths are linked." Somebody shared a phone recording on Gab, allegedly from the friend of a pilot, claiming that the government is in crisis talks with BA because ninety percent of their pilots have now had the jab and might be sent home sick as a precaution, see: https://gab.com/BeachMilk/posts/106426449588162200. That leaves just 450 pilots to fly the forty to fifty million passengers BA ships per year. Reuters have "fact checked" the issue and deny that such a crisis is happening. Their reasons are that a company spokesman and the MHRA say so... which they obviously would anyway if the crisis talks were confidential. The passing of the four young men is apparently just a coincidence. Deepest condolences to the families and loved ones of the pilots who died. If the government and their employer are lying about what caused their deaths then I hope the truth comes out soon.
