Black Panther Postscript

 

When the film Black Panther was released I was inundated by messages from people asking me to say something about it. They told me it was a hotbed of cultural Marxist propaganda. Therefore I did a HPANWO TV roving review of it, see: https://hpanwo-tv.blogspot.com/2018/03/black-panther-film-review.html. I went into the cinema looking for this cultural Marxism and expecting to find it. When I found very little I ended up rather enjoying the film. The story portrays Africa as the most technologically advanced continent, which in real life of course it isn't. This was what I think many people objected to; although it didn't really bother me. Ironically the worst example can be found in what I'm about to describe. The film ends with a lead credit animated segment which is followed by an amazing postscript, the best bit of the film. Unfortunately by then a lot of people in the cinema assumed that the movie was over and there was nothing left to see but the credit roll; and so they were standing up and moving to the exit. Then, when they realized there was something interesting left to watch, they stopped to watch in the aisles, obstructing my view of the screen. This happens a lot when you go to the cinema unfortunately. It is why I always stay and watch films to the very end. The prime setting for the film is the fictional country of Wakanda which lies in central Africa. It is a closed society with few foreign visitors and therefore has developed a highly technological and scientific culture unknown to the outside world. This includes free energy, a topic very familiar to HPANWO readers. In the postscript scene King T'Challa, the leader of Wakanda, visits the United Nations headquarters with an embassy of his cabinet and makes an announcement: "For the first time in our history, we will be sharing our knowledge and resources with the outside world. Wakanda will no longer watch from the shadows. We cannot. We must not. We will work to be an example of how we as brothers and sisters on this earth should treat each other. Now more than ever illusions of division threaten our very existence. We all know the truth. More connects us than separates us. But in times of crisis the wise build bridges while the foolish build barriers." Possibly the scriptwriters were having an unfair dig at President Trump here and his famous border wall. T'Challa continues: "We must find a way to look after one another as if we were one single tribe." Then the inevitable Token EEEEEvil White Male says: "With all due respect, King T-Challa; what can a nation of farmers have to offer the rest of the world?" The answer is of course the science and technology that the small African state has been coveting. What this scene describes is a type of Disclosure moment. It is one unlikely to come true, unless Wakanda can be seen as an allegory for what Richard Dolan calls the Breakaway Civilization. I've no doubt such an entity exists and it does use the advancements currently classified Top Secret to the world at large. But in reality these secrets do not lie inside any one country. There is no lost world high in the mountains above the African savannah. The means to set this world free from the energy slavery we endure are everywhere, secreted in different places around the globe. Still, I thought that scene was an interesting turn of events and it was a pity it was at the end of the film; in fact it would have been nice if it had been before the credit sequence so that everybody was in their seats when it appeared. Apparently there will be a sequel. This will not be an easy film to make if the writers do have the intentions with that postscript that I think they might; but it is possible.
