There has been an attempt to hack the HPANWO web pages and
my personal computers. I was engaged in my normal activity yesterday when I
received a warning email that I had been locked out of all HPANWO platforms.
This was not because the hack was successful; the opposite in fact. Luckily the
system had detected the Trojan and secured my accounts before any changes could
be made. I was then advised to change my passwords and carry out an antivirus
scan. I did both and my antivirus did indeed pick up the malware that had probably
caused it. I use a subscription antivirus and I really recommend that; it is
money very well spent. It's likely a free suite might not have spotted the
danger. I'm using quite an old operating system, but I've enrolled in a special
security extension until I upgrade my license permanently. I have everything
backed up as well. As alarming as this experience has been, the fact that I
know it happened is the good news. If a hack works the target will never find
out until it's too late. This sort of thing has never happened to me before. Is
there a reason why it happened now? Was it a person doing it deliberately?
Probably not; these attacks are very often carried out on millions of users by
automated systems. I'm now taking additional precautions and hopefully there
will be no more trouble.
